Why become an apprentice with WEBS

Why the furniture and interiors industry?

Furniture and interiors is literally all around us.

At home, at work, leisure spaces, retail spaces – they almost all have furniture and flooring. Every building we go in, and even some spaces outside, has furniture.

Which means it needs people to design it, sell it, transport it, install it, and of course, make it.

The British Furniture Confederation says that in 2022 UK furniture, textile floorcoverings, bed and furnishings manufacturing and retailing contributed:
  • over £40 billion to the economy
  • 28,500 companies
  • 290,000 jobs
Furniture and bed manufacture contributed:
  • £11.35 billion to the economy
  • 6,880 companies
  • 91,000 jobs

However, a lot of the workforce is now older, which means it is now more important than ever for new people to join the industry. When you choose furniture and interiors, you are choosing an exciting sector, that is important to the UK and UK heritage.

A lot of UK-manufactured furniture still uses hand processes – which means that furniture manufacture can really be modern day craftmanship.

It also supports the construction and trades industries, where furniture and interiors installation along with floorlaying supports new build housing estates and commercial development.
